Wat Phra Yai - Big Budha |

This temple is the home of Koh Samui's most famous landmark the Big Buddha. Most Visitors come to marvel at the sheer size and beauty of this remarkable statue at some point during their holiday. Visible from several kilometers away and even from the air when arriving on or leaving the island , the 12 meter tall golden image stands proud.
At the base of the structure, several shops and restaurants cater to the needs of devotees and tourists alike. Wat Phra Yai is in the Northeast of Samui on route 4171 near the airport. |

Wat Sumret |

Wat Sumret is like most of the temples of Ko Samui, inhabited by only a handful of old monks that look after the buildings and keep the paths clean. It is a quiet and lovely forest monastery, with a number of very beautiful old teakwood buildings. The fact that it is almost forsaken only adds to the charm of the place. On the temple grounds is the ruin of an old chedi, probably from the 17th century. One of the buildings houses a precious Buddha statue made of Burmese white jade (the building is usually locked; you have to ask the friendly old guardian or one of the monks to open it for you. Do not forget to leave a donation in the donation box!)
Just go an driving south on highway No. 4169 until the little village Ban Hua Thanon and then drive about 1 kilometers east (i.e to the right). On the left side of the highway is a narrow dirt road that leads (after 1 more kilometer) to Wat Sumret. |

Wat Khun Aram - The mummyfied Monk |

The body of Samui's most famous mummified monk, Loung Pordaeng, is on display here in a specially constructed building.
When he died more than 20 years ago, he was sitting in a meditation position. He is still in that same position and his body shows few signs of any major decay Wat Khunaram is on the 4169 ringroad between the Na Muang waterfalls and Hua Thanon.
Wat Khunaram, the second temple mentioned above, is located some kilometers west of Wat Sumret. Drive back from Wat Sumret to the highway No. 4169 and turn left. After 1 1/2 kilometers you will see on the the left side of the road an arch that marks the entry to the temple. |

Wat Bophut |

Wat Bophut is located in the North of Koh Samui, at the intersection between the Chaweng road and the coastal road of Bophut. Once you pass the red and golden gate, you'll find a large park bordered by many shade-providing trees, several wooden houses and the main two temples whose red colour contrasts beautifully with the tropical blue sky and the many palm trees surrounding the area. |

Wat Laem Sor

In the grounds of Wat Laem Sor, this ornately designed Chedi(Pagoda) sits at the rocky water's edge. Covered in countless small yellow tiles, it appears golden when viewed from a short distance. It's at the far South of the island off the 4170 road between Ban Tale and Ban Pang Ka. Follow the track with a sign that reads "Waikiki Bungalows", and It's at the end of that. |
